24/7 Electrical Services and Repairs installs and repairs reliable electrical grounding throughout McLoud, OK, giving stray current a safe path to earth so your family, your home, and your electronics stay protected.
Professional Electrical Grounding in McLoud, OK
Electrical grounding is the safety system that gives stray current a safe path back to the earth, and getting it right is a matter of life safety. At 24/7 Electrical Services and Repairs, we install, inspect, and repair grounding systems to the full requirements of the code. When a fault energizes a metal surface, proper grounding carries that current away and trips the breaker before anyone is harmed. Without it, that same fault could deliver a fatal shock or start a fire inside a wall. We test the grounding electrode, the conductors, and the bonding that ties your metal parts together. Older homes with two prong outlets and no grounding conductor are a special focus, since they often hide real danger. We bring those systems up to current code with proper grounding and bonding. Good grounding also gives surge protection and sensitive electronics the stable reference they need to work. We measure ground resistance to confirm the system actually meets code rather than just looking right. Every repair we make protects both safety and the performance of your electronics. Our pricing is upfront and our work is licensed. That is the standard McLoud homeowners trust.
I had a very positive experience with 24/7 Electrical Services. Jonathan was professional, knowledgeable, and instrumental in helpings figure out the most cost effective way to get our greenhouse wired from our house. He communicated with us very well and got estimates to us quickly. He made extra efforts to find a solution for us. The electricians were polite, friendly and showed up on time. They got the job done in a timely manner. I would definitely use 24/7 again and would highly recommend them.
Very pleased with company! Brian Fritz on 2 separate visits removed old fan and installed a new living room ceiling fan and kitchen ceiling light fixture along with new switches. Punctual, pleasant and professional with over 20 years experience.
24/7 was recommended. I feel I could not have made a better choice for the repairs needed. Brian came out, was super nice, very professional, straight forward, and told me exactly what needed to be done. I accepted the quote, and within minutes, he called me back, set up an appointment. he showed up early, and finished the repairs in less time than quoted. small businesses like 24/7 deserve more from our community. if your thinking about 24/7, just do it, you won't regret it

Very pleased with this company. Called and requested a quote on work. They came within a week and 3 weeks later( due to my schedule restraints) they were able to complete the work. They provided a great quote and spelled out exactly what they were going to doing and cost. They completed it in 1 1/2 hours. Very professional and courteous. Will gladly do business with this company in the future.
Thank you so much 24/7 electrical, Johnathan and his aprentice did an amazing job. We did not realize how bad we needed an upgrade. Everything has been working so much better. Very friendly, respectful and professional.
24/7 Electrical was a pleasure to work with from the initial phone call. They were pleasant, helpful, quick to respond, thorough in explanation, fair in cost, and did great work. They will certainly get my business going forward.
Had a short time window to work with and had multiple issues needing fixed from GFI replacement, dimmer switch, faulty light switches and wiring new cooktop and double oven. Showed up on time, was fast efficient and friendly. Prices were very reasonable.
I had a different electrician come replace a breaker panel for me and he was in the attic at one point. He told me there were all kinds of repairs needing done and quoted me a little over $1800 to fix it. I called 24/7 electric out for a second opinion and their guy told me nothing up there was an emergency and the minor things he noticed were easy fixes that I could do myself- like putting connectors on and a box over some spliced and capped wires. He took pictures so he could explain what he saw. I know who to call now for honesty! Thank you 24/7 for saving me a big nonessential expense!!
It was a great feeling to get a quote then have 24/7 electrical services Be able to meet our needs within three days. Thank you Brian and team for helping us get a new electoral box and service very quickly.
Jonathan and his team arrived on time, quickly was able to troubleshoot and do the repair, was professional, cleaned up after themselves and was reasonable. Highly recommend!!
I did not realize that they were based in McLoud, but they didn't bat an eye about coming to Edmond to give me a free estimate and then followed with the actual install a few days later. The electricians were well groomed and had on identifying shirts & hats. They were professional, efficient & thorough and left the area clean and orderly. I also needed a new switch which he had on the truck and so they installed that too, as well as the two expected light fixtures. I am thrilled with their service and the price was reasonable.
They showed up on time, immediately got to work, explained everything they were doing and the game plan going forward and how they were troubleshooting the issue. Found and fixed the problem within an hour. Prices are fair as well! Highly recommend them for all your electrical services.
Jonathan was able to begin and finish work quickly and professionally. We would recommend 24/7 Electrical for one’s Electrical services needs!
Johnathan & crew were there earlier than we expected. They did a great job and I have no problem recommending them. They electrified our new sunroom and installed a ceiling fan and outdoor security light. Looking forward to using them again, if needed!
Jonathan and his crew replaced the whole house fuse panel, they explained everything from start to finish. All my concerns were answered during the entire process. They all were very kind while they worked in unison, no stone left unturned. This company is a real GEM if your looking for any electric issue, from small job to big job. Extremely efficient, I searched the internet for electricians, and 24/7 came up as the best, put your worries aside, these guys know what they are doing..

We needed an electrical lamp light post installed but they first had to remove the very old non working gas light, it required digging under a concrete drive and moving river rock out of the way. They also had to change the outside lights. They did all of that in a timely manner. They were very neat putting all the grass back cleaning up the walkways. They were friendly and highly competent. I will use them again.
Jonathan and company was super nice. Showed up on time and helped us with a brand new breaker box so that we have power throughout the home. Thank you for also removing old ceiling fan and putting up new fan. Looks great. Thank you.

Jonathan and Brian were both on time for my appointments, efficient, experienced and professional. Thank you for your quick upfront quote and completing the work in a timely manner.
Called and Johnathon came out to review and quote. Never received quote and sent follow up text and no other action was taken on this companies part. Looking to remodel kitchen and trying to tackle couple issues so the house brought up to code. Disappointed. Try somewhere else.
Always there when you need them they get the job done very professional I have used them several times and wouldn’t use anyone else’s.
The 2 gentlemen showed up on time, very professional, (mother taught them great manners. Always yes ma'am or no ma'am.) Did excellent work. Everything looked great. My late husband would have been proud. As he was a master electrician 45yrs. Thank you again for your outstanding job. Michelle Inman

These guys do great work at a very fair price. Plus, they show up on time and get the job done. They helped my son-in-law with his EV charging system and wired me up for my mini-split project. Work was clean and orderly. Highly recommend them.
He was very polite got my kitchen vent hood put in fast it looks great an works fine
The guys did excellent work very respectable. I will definitely call them in the future.
Scheduled an estimate call to have a Transfer Box installed for a generator when my power goes out. The technician suggested a better way of doing it that would cost me less money (saving money is up my alley). The appointment was scheduled 3 days out, and when the date came, he was early. The job was completed in a timely manner, and the price was very reasonable. It's nice to know that you are not being taken advantage of to make extra money. Outstanding work, and now I'm ready for those power outages, and it didn't hurt my pocket. Thanks Guy's!!!
Prompt response - called ahead of arrival. Electrician Jonathan did a great job - very polite. He did over and beyond what was requested. Quickly replied with additional quotes I requested.

These are a rare breed in today's day and time. I am a senior citizen age 67 on a fixed income and 100% disabled. I own my home outright and I've put a new roof on it but the storm tore my roof and my pipes completely off by my 50-year-old pecan trees. The water shot through my Hunter ceiling fans and broke them and broke several of my electrical pieces in my home the water damage was very extensive. I was very fortunate as statewide roofing helps me get my home back together again. And now 24/7 came out installed my doorbell fixed my fan to where they had to just take it down and put a new light up so that it would not be dangerous. Not only that they actually put a temporary light up until they could get me one with a cord on it and they didn't have to do that. They also replaced every bulb in my home because I am handicapped and cannot do so. He fixed everything he could possibly fix. The owner took special attention to a little old lady like me and helped me God bless these people they will help you too once a year they help us please take advantage and call them before it would be too late it's every August I believe. what is so awesome about that is they wait until the end of the season to see how much damage has been done to the seniors and they actually help us out with no charge. Gather some things they cannot fix like I need a whole new electrical box and they can't do that but they can help me keep my lights on and keep me safe. And keep me to where I can live in my home and die in it I don't have but maybe 10 years left and I thank them that I don't have to worry those last 10 years. I pray I have longer but we're realistic 67 maybe? Just trying to live in my family home that I've been in since I was a baby and 24/7 electricity has helped me and I'm sure so many other seniors there's no other company like this in Oklahoma City and a lot of people can take heed from these folks. I've asked habitat for humanity I've asked all kinds of help and statewide roofing and 24/7 electric are the only two that would help me as a senior. You guys again I cannot tell you enough how much you have made my life a better place thank you God bless.....
This is my new go-to electrical service company. My dryer wouldn't power on. The dryer repairman said it was a breaker box problem and I would need an electrician to fix it. I called 24/7, and they sent Brian out right away. He confirmed that my breaker box was fine, and even agreed to talk to the dryer repairman. My dryer is now working properly. Since he was at my house any way, I asked Brian to repair a couple of light switches and install a new outlet. He did the job well and quickly, and cleaned up after himself. I was impressed with the responsiveness of the company, and with Brian's efficiency. I'll definitely use 24/7 again.
Best prices around. Was able to get a technician out within a hour of calling. The technician was very thorough and respectful. Would recommend these guys 100%.
I am a contractor in Oklahoma city, as busy as we are I forgot I had a electric mast repair on insurance scope to be repaired. I was reviewing scope the day before and saw the repair in estimate so I called these guys and they has a guy there the following morning as we started roof. The guys took care of the repair in an hour or so and did a great job. The price was a lot less then I was expecting and I could not be happier with my experience with these guys. I will definitely use then again.. TOP NOTCH..

I talked with these people and they agreed to go inspect a house for electrical issues after a fire and provide a bid to repair/replace. That was two weeks ago, and I'm still waiting to hear back from someone
Called on Sunday and was offered a time for same-day service or another day the upcoming week that fit our schedule. An electrician texted us an hour before he came out and was on-time to appointment. He was kind, easy to understand, and quickly finished our job in just about 30 minutes. He even was able to give us some advice about other electrical questions we had but did not need fixed during this appointment. Will use again if needed!
The serviceman was extremely pleasant, and very efficient at his job. He took the time to explain to me why my GFI outlet went bad. Then he offered to fix it... as well as put a new separate wall plug in for my refrigerator, so it wouldn't happen again! ( even though it was 8pm at night ) I was very pleased with the service, so I've put their number in my phone, for the next time I need an electrician. Margaret

Electrical Grounding in McLoud, OK
Electrical grounding is the safety system that gives stray electrical current a safe path back to the earth. It is one of the most important and most widely misunderstood parts of any electrical system in a home or a business. When everything is working correctly, the grounding system stays completely invisible and silent in the background of your home. When a fault occurs, that quiet grounding system springs into action instantly and protects both the people and the property inside. A ground fault sends dangerous current down the grounding conductor instead of through the body of a person who happens to touch an energized surface. Without proper grounding in place, that same fault could deliver a fatal shock to someone or start an electrical fire inside a wall. Grounding also gives surge protection devices and circuit breakers the stable reference they need to function correctly and trip when they should. At 24/7 Electrical Services and Repairs, we install, inspect, and repair grounding systems to the full requirements of the code. Proper grounding is never optional; it is quite literally the foundation of a safe electrical system. We always treat it with the seriousness that real safety demands.
Understanding how grounding works helps explain why it matters so much. Electricity always seeks the path of least resistance back to its source, and a grounding system provides that safe, intended path. The grounding system connects the metal parts of your entire electrical system to the earth itself through a grounding electrode. That electrode is usually a ground rod driven deep into the soil, a buried metal water pipe, a concrete encased electrode, or some combination of these. A grounding conductor then ties your main panel, your outlets, and your metal enclosures back to that electrode. When a hot wire accidentally contacts a metal box or an appliance frame, the grounding path immediately carries that fault current safely away. That sudden surge of fault current trips the breaker almost instantly, cutting the power before anyone can be harmed. The whole system works in a fraction of a second to protect you. Bonding ties all the metal parts of the system together so they always stay at the same safe electrical potential. Together, grounding and bonding form one complete and reliable safety system.
Older homes often have grounding problems that put the people inside at real risk. Many homes built decades ago were wired with two prong outlets and no equipment grounding conductor at all. Ungrounded outlets cannot protect sensitive electronics, and they cannot carry a dangerous fault current safely away from you. Some older systems relied on the metal conduit or the armored cable jacket as a ground path, and those connections can loosen and fail over time. Aluminum wiring, ground rods that have corroded in the soil, and loose connections at the panel all quietly degrade a grounding system over the years. A home with any of these issues may look and feel perfectly fine right up until a fault reveals the missing protection. We carefully inspect older grounding systems and identify exactly where the protection has weakened or failed entirely. We then bring the entire system up to current code with proper grounding electrodes, conductors, and bonding. That single upgrade transforms a hidden, silent hazard into a reliable and lasting safety system. Older homes deserve exactly the same protection that newly built ones receive.
Grounding protects more than just people; it protects your equipment and electronics too. A proper grounding system gives whole house and plug in surge protection a solid reference point to divert excess voltage safely to earth. Without a good ground beneath it, even the best surge protector cannot do its job effectively. Sensitive electronics like computers, televisions, gaming systems, and smart home devices all depend on stable grounding to function properly. Poor grounding can cause data errors, premature equipment damage, and shortened lifespans for expensive electronic devices. Ground loops and the electrical noise that comes from bad grounding can interfere with audio, video, and networking systems. A solid grounding system gives all of this equipment the clean reference it needs. We make sure your grounding system supports both personal safety and the reliable performance of your sensitive electronics. That dual benefit is a big part of why grounding matters so much in a modern home. We build grounding systems sized and configured for the electrical demands of a modern home.
Recognizing the signs of a grounding problem can prevent a dangerous situation. A mild shock or tingle when you touch an appliance is a serious warning of a grounding fault. Outlets that have only two prongs clearly indicate a circuit running with no grounding conductor at all. A faint burning smell, flickering lights, or electronics that keep getting damaged can all point to underlying grounding issues. Surge protectors that display a wiring fault indicator light are telling you plainly that the grounding is compromised. GFCI outlets that will not reset sometimes reveal an underlying grounding problem. Any of these signs deserves a professional inspection rather than a wait and see approach. We test the grounding system to find the exact source of the problem. Catching a grounding fault early protects everyone living in the home. Ignoring it simply leaves a hidden danger sitting in place.
A professional grounding inspection and repair follows a methodical process that leaves nothing to chance. We start by testing the existing grounding system with proper instruments to measure how effective it really is. We check the grounding electrode itself, be it a driven rod, a metal water pipe, or another approved method allowed by code. We inspect the grounding conductor and its connections at the panel, at the outlets, and at the connected equipment. We verify the bonding that ties all the metal parts of the system together at the same safe potential. We measure ground resistance to confirm the system meets code requirements. Where we find problems, we repair or replace the failed components properly. We add ground rods, upgrade undersized conductors, and correct faulty bonding exactly as the system requires. Every repair we make brings the grounding system fully up to the current code. The result is a complete grounding system you can trust to protect your home.
Choosing a licensed electrician for grounding work protects your home and ensures the job meets code. 24/7 Electrical Services and Repairs holds Oklahoma license number 084623, and we ground every system to the code requirements. Grounding is far too important to leave to guesswork, and we bring the proper testing tools and the knowledge to get it right. Our pricing stays upfront and honest, with free local estimates and absolutely no surprises waiting at the end of the job. We are locally owned and family operated, so our reputation rides on the safety of every system we ground. We back our work with a one year labor warranty and a three year panel warranty. A faulty grounding system is an invisible hazard hiding in your walls, and resolving exactly that is our job. We show up on time, test the system thoroughly, and explain what we found in plain, clear terms. Your family safety depends directly on a grounding system that actually works. When you need grounding done right, we are ready to help.

Why Electrical Code Matters for Electrical Grounding
Electrical code matters for grounding because grounding is one of the most fundamental life safety systems in any building. The National Electrical Code sets detailed requirements for grounding precisely because the danger of getting it wrong is so severe. The code dictates the type and size of grounding electrodes a system must use, from ground rods to water pipes. It specifies how grounding conductors are sized so they can safely carry fault current. It requires the bonding of metal parts so no dangerous voltage differences develop between surfaces. It sets specific grounding and GFCI requirements for high risk areas like bathrooms, kitchens, garages, and outdoor locations. Each of these rules closes a particular gap that could otherwise leave someone exposed to a shock or a fire. When grounding ignores the code, the protection that should clear a fault simply is not there. A home with improper grounding can fail inspection, complicate a sale, and jeopardize insurance coverage. Most importantly, faulty grounding leaves the people inside exposed to hazards they cannot see. Inspectors verify grounding closely because the consequences of a mistake can be fatal. Grounding to code is the only way to be sure the system protects your home the way it should.
Most Common Electrical Grounding Questions
Electrical grounding raises plenty of important questions, from how to tell if a home is grounded to whether ground rods are needed. We have answered the ones our McLoud customers ask most so you know what to expect before we arrive.
Electrical grounding is a safety system that connects your electrical system to the earth to handle stray current. Its main purpose is to give fault current a safe path away from people and toward the ground. When a hot wire contacts a metal surface it should not, grounding carries that current away instantly. That action trips the breaker and cuts the power before anyone receives a shock. Without grounding, a fault could leave a metal appliance or outlet energized and dangerous to touch. Grounding also helps protect your home from fire by clearing faults quickly. It gives surge protection and sensitive electronics a stable reference to work against. In short, grounding is one of the most important safety features in any building.
Grounding matters because the alternative is genuinely dangerous. An ungrounded fault can deliver a fatal shock to anyone who touches an energized surface. It can also cause arcing and heat that start an electrical fire inside a wall. Sensitive electronics without proper grounding are vulnerable to damage from surges and voltage problems. Older homes with ungrounded wiring carry these risks every day, often without the owners realizing it. The protection grounding provides works silently until the moment it is needed. That moment can be the difference between a tripped breaker and a tragedy. This is why the code takes grounding so seriously.
Understanding grounding helps homeowners appreciate why it cannot be skipped or shortcut. The system relies on a grounding electrode, usually a rod driven into the earth or a metal water pipe. A grounding conductor connects your panel and circuits to that electrode. Bonding ties all the metal parts together so they stay at the same safe potential. Every piece of this system has to be intact for the protection to work. A single broken connection can leave part of your home unprotected. We make sure every component of the grounding system is present and correct. That completeness is what makes grounding reliable.
Several signs can tell you whether your house has a grounding problem worth investigating. The most obvious is the presence of two prong outlets, which usually means no grounding conductor is present. A mild shock or tingle when you touch an appliance is a serious warning sign of a fault. Flickering lights, frequently damaged electronics, or a faint burning smell can also point to grounding issues. A surge protector with a wiring fault light is telling you the grounding is compromised. GFCI outlets that trip without reason or will not reset sometimes reveal a grounding problem. These signs deserve attention rather than a wait and see approach. Noticing them early can prevent a dangerous situation.
The age and history of your home offer additional clues about its grounding. Homes built before grounding became standard often lack a proper grounding conductor entirely. Houses with older wiring methods may rely on conduit or armored cable grounds that have degraded. A home that has had electrical work done over the years may have a mix of grounded and ungrounded circuits. Renovations and additions sometimes leave grounding incomplete if they were not done properly. Knowing when your home was built and how it was wired helps frame the question. We use that history along with testing to assess the grounding. That combination gives an accurate picture.
The only way to know for certain is a professional grounding test. We use specialized testers to measure the effectiveness of the grounding system. We check outlets to confirm they are actually grounded, not just fitted with three prong receptacles. We inspect the grounding electrode and its connections at the panel. We measure ground resistance to confirm the system meets code. This testing reveals problems that are invisible from the outside. We then explain what we found and what, if anything, needs correcting. When you want certainty about your home’s grounding, we provide it.
We can add proper grounding to an older home, and it is one of the most valuable safety upgrades available. Many older homes were built with ungrounded two prong outlets and no equipment grounding conductor. Bringing these homes up to current standards protects the people inside and their electronics. The approach depends on the home’s wiring and how it was originally installed. In some cases, we can run a grounding conductor to existing outlets to ground them properly. In others, rewiring circuits is the cleaner path to reliable grounding. We assess your specific home to determine the best method. The goal is always a grounding system that meets code and works.
There are several ways to bring grounding to an older home, and we choose the right one for your situation. Where conduit or armored cable exists, we can sometimes use it as a ground if it is continuous and intact. Running a new grounding conductor from the panel to outlets is another reliable option. For some circuits, replacing the old wiring with modern grounded cable is the best long term solution. GFCI protection can also provide a measure of safety on circuits where a full ground is impractical. We explain the options and their trade offs so you can make an informed choice. Each approach has to meet the code to truly protect you. We never cut corners on a grounding upgrade.
Upgrading the grounding in an older home delivers benefits that go well beyond code compliance. Your three prong appliances and electronics finally get the grounding they were designed to use. Surge protection becomes effective because it has a real ground to work against. The risk of shock from an energized surface drops dramatically. Sensitive electronics gain protection from damage and perform more reliably. The home becomes safer for everyone who lives in or visits it. The upgrade also adds value and peace of mind when selling the home. When your older home needs grounding, we bring it up to modern safety standards.
Getting shocked when you touch an appliance is a serious warning sign that should never be ignored. The most common cause is a grounding fault, where electricity is energizing the metal frame of the appliance. In a properly grounded system, that fault current would flow to ground and trip the breaker. When grounding is missing or broken, the current has nowhere to go until you touch the appliance. Your body then becomes the path to ground, which is exactly what grounding is meant to prevent. The shock you feel is current passing through you, and it can be dangerous. This is not a minor annoyance; it is a real hazard. You should stop using the appliance and call a professional right away.
Several underlying problems can cause this kind of shock. A wiring fault inside the appliance can energize its metal housing. A missing or broken grounding connection leaves that fault with no safe path. An ungrounded outlet, common in older homes, provides no grounding at all, and a miswired outlet with reversed or wrong connections can cause shocks just as easily. Moisture reaching electrical components can create a path that energizes a surface. Each of these requires diagnosis to identify and correct safely. We test the appliance, the outlet, and the circuit to find the cause. That methodical approach pinpoints the real problem.
The fix depends on what we find, but the goal is always to eliminate the shock hazard. If the outlet is ungrounded, we add proper grounding to the circuit. If the outlet is miswired, we correct the connections. If the appliance itself has an internal fault, we identify that so it can be repaired or replaced, and we check the grounding system as a whole to make sure it is intact. GFCI protection may be added for an extra layer of safety against shocks. We verify the repair removes the hazard before we consider the job done. Living with shocks from your appliances is never safe. When this happens, we find and fix the cause quickly.
Grounding and bonding are related but distinct parts of an electrical safety system. Grounding connects the electrical system to the earth, giving fault current a path to ground. Bonding connects metal parts together so they all stay at the same electrical potential. Both work together to keep you safe, but they do different jobs. Grounding gives a fault somewhere to go, while bonding prevents dangerous voltage differences between metal surfaces. Think of grounding as the connection to earth and bonding as the connection between parts. The code requires both, and a complete system depends on each one. Understanding the difference helps explain why both are necessary.
Bonding plays a critical role that people often overlook. Without bonding, two metal parts could sit at different voltages, creating a shock hazard between them. Bonding ties together metal pipes, enclosures, equipment frames, and other conductive parts. This ensures that if a fault energizes one part, all the bonded parts rise to the same potential. That equalization prevents current from flowing through a person who touches two surfaces at once. Bonding is especially important around water, like at metal plumbing and in bathrooms. The code has specific bonding requirements for these areas. We make sure all the required bonding is in place.
Together, grounding and bonding form a complete safety system that neither could provide alone. Grounding clears faults by sending current to earth and tripping breakers. Bonding keeps everything at the same safe potential so no dangerous differences develop. A system with grounding but poor bonding still has gaps in its protection. A system with bonding but no grounding cannot clear a fault to earth, so we install and verify both to keep your system fully protected. We check the grounding electrode and conductors along with all the required bonding. The result is a system where both safety functions work as intended. When you want complete protection, both grounding and bonding must be right.
Grounding plays an important role in protecting your electronics, but it works alongside surge protection rather than alone. A grounding system gives a surge protector the path it needs to divert excess voltage safely. When a surge hits, the protector shunts the dangerous voltage to ground, where grounding carries it away. Without a solid ground, a surge protector cannot do its job effectively. So grounding is the foundation that makes surge protection work. By itself, grounding does not stop a surge, but it enables the devices that do. This is why good grounding matters for anyone with sensitive electronics. The two systems are designed to work as partners.
Understanding the relationship helps you protect your equipment properly. Surge protection devices, including whole house and plug in units, rely on grounding to function. A whole house surge protector installed at the panel needs a solid ground to divert surges. Plug in surge strips also depend on the outlet being properly grounded. If the grounding is missing or weak, these devices offer far less protection than they should. We make sure your grounding can support effective surge protection. That foundation is essential before surge devices can do their work. Pairing good grounding with surge protection gives your electronics real protection.
For the best protection, we recommend combining proper grounding with layered surge protection. A whole house surge protector at the panel stops large surges from the utility or lightning. Plug in protectors at sensitive equipment add a second layer of defense. Both layers depend on a grounding system that can carry surges safely to earth. We verify your grounding and install surge protection that works with it. This combination protects computers, televisions, appliances, and smart home devices for an investment that is small compared to replacing damaged electronics. When you want to protect your equipment, we build the complete system. Good grounding and surge protection together give you peace of mind.
Building codes require grounding because it is one of the most fundamental safety features in any electrical system. The code exists to protect people and property from the dangers of electricity. Grounding directly addresses the risks of shock and fire from electrical faults. By requiring grounding, the code ensures that faults have a safe path away from people. It also ensures that breakers and protective devices can function as designed. These requirements are based on decades of experience with electrical hazards and accidents. The code reflects what has been learned about keeping electrical systems safe. Following it is how we protect the people who use the building.
The specific grounding requirements in the code are detailed and exist for good reasons. The code dictates the type and size of grounding electrodes a system must use. It specifies how grounding conductors are sized and connected. It requires bonding of metal parts to prevent dangerous voltage differences. It sets rules for grounding in specific locations like bathrooms, kitchens, and outdoors. Each requirement closes a particular gap that could otherwise create a hazard. Together, these rules form a complete approach to electrical safety. We know these requirements and build them into every grounding installation.
Meeting the grounding code protects you in ways that go beyond safety alone. A properly grounded system passes inspection, which matters for renovations and home sales. Insurance coverage can depend on a home meeting electrical code, including grounding. Unpermitted or non compliant grounding work can cause problems and liability down the road. Most importantly, code compliant grounding genuinely protects your family from electrical hazards, which is why we ground every system to the full requirements of the code. That compliance is not just a formality; it is real protection. We never compromise on grounding because the stakes are too high. When grounding is done to code, your home is truly protected.
Most electrical systems require a grounding electrode, and a ground rod is one of the most common types. A ground rod is a metal rod driven deep into the earth to connect your system to the ground. The code requires a grounding electrode system, and ground rods are a standard way to provide it. Whether you need one depends on your existing grounding and what electrodes are already present. Many homes use a combination of a ground rod and a metal water pipe as electrodes. The goal is a low resistance connection to the earth that can carry fault current. We evaluate your system to determine what grounding electrode it needs. That assessment is the starting point for any grounding work.
The number of ground rods you need often comes down to resistance. The code generally requires that a single ground rod achieve a low enough resistance to ground. When one rod cannot reach that resistance, the code requires a second rod to be added. Soil conditions, moisture, and the type of ground all affect how well a rod performs. Dry or rocky soil can make it hard for a single rod to achieve low resistance. In those cases, a second rod spaced properly from the first brings the resistance down. We measure ground resistance to determine exactly what your system requires. That measurement removes the guesswork from the decision.
Proper installation of ground rods matters as much as the number of them. A ground rod must be driven to the required depth to be effective. The connection between the rod and the grounding conductor must be solid and corrosion resistant. Rods spaced too closely together do not provide the benefit of separation. The grounding conductor must be sized correctly for the system. We install ground rods to the full code requirements and verify the result with testing, and we inspect existing rods for corrosion and loose connections. Getting the grounding electrode right is the foundation of the whole system. When your home needs ground rods, we install them correctly.
